In order to join the Krul Raptor Pack, there are a few things you need to know. We've devised this section for newbies and inexperienced players, or people returning who haven't been around for a while, to read up on, and log this in your memory. Here is all you need to know in order to join Krul, AND be a successful RPer.

ABBREVIATION DICTIONARY

Alright, before we get into the real, nitty-gritty stuff, we're going to introduce you to some of out IRC abbreviations. I mean, let's face it, always typing things out, gets tedious. You'll adapt. ;)

BRB - Be Right Back. You'll end up using this one the most.
AFK - Away From Keyboard. An alternative to BRB.
BBS - Be Back Soon. Longer time than BRB.
GTG - Got To Go. If you have to leave quickly.
OOC - Out Of Character. In other words, chat.
IC - In Character. The role-play.
          RP - Role Play.
          IRL - In Real Life.

Okay, those are all the basics. Please note that most of us use emoticons as well, such as ;) (winking face), ^_^ (Very happy face), ^^ (Sorta happy face), :( (Sad face), o_O (raising an eyebrow), and e_e (glaring/sarcastic face). These are only a few examples. Also, we'd like to note, that excessive use of "netbabble", such as "u" for you, and "r" for are, is intensely discouraged. Please type out the majority of your sentences.

REQUIREMENTS

Yes. We have requirements. Read them, meet them, and you'll be welcome to RP with us.

  1. mIRC.   You need to have a client to role-play. We suggest downloading it here.
  2. Semi-consistent Internet Schedule. If you can't be online around the same general time every day, or however often you get on, then you will possibly fall behind in RP happenings.
  3. Open Mind. If you have quirks, taboos, or anything along those lines, leave them at the door. In here, we will talk about such things as (for example) religion, wrestling, violence, or others that you may or may not like to see. If someone brings up a topic you are uncomfortable with, simply leave or ignore the channel. If this person is causing a real problem, then the mods will deal with it.
  4. Character. Obviously to RP, you need a character. We'll go more in-depth later.

----------------------------------------------------------

GENERAL RULES

If you don't read these, at least be sensible. Have common sense enough not to anger the other RPers. We'll go into detail here, because if you can't at least skim over this, then you're screwed. But if you follow these guidelines, then we'll get along fine. ;)

  1. Tact. Okay, that's a little loose. What we mean, is try to curb your attitude. If you're having a bad day, don't take it out on us. We didn't cause your problems, we don't want to be your scapegoat. If you try to take your frustrations out on another member, you will be warned, then kicked (if the problem persists), then if it gets really bad, you will be banned. This also applies to certain topics. If one person asks you to take something into a private message, please do so. We're trying to avoid conflicts.
  2. Respect. Most of the people here have been RPing for years. They know what they're doing, and they've probably seen anything you can throw at them, within reason. They are the moderators, but not necessarily the high-ranking in the role-play. If you must argue with one, please do so in a civil manner, or take it to the provate messages.
  3. Obey the rules. This includes everything here. If you can't obey these rules, you should probably leave.
  4. Legal Stuff. Okay, while most of us are 15, 16 and older, some of us may not be. It is illegal to engage in "cybersex" with a minor in a public chat for the world to see, and we will not be held responsible for your actions. This is low-tolerance. If you absolutely HAVE TO do this, then go into a private message.

----------------------------------------------------------

IRC

There are a few IRC-specific things we have to address here. It's short. Just read it.

  1. Spamming. It's a lot like flooding, but it is the same message, over, and over, and over. Doing this causes the server to overload, and eventually, someone will "time out", and be forced out of the channel. If you attempt this, you will be removed from the channel.
  2. Flooding. Typing to fill up your needs to say a message is one thing. But filling the text area with garbage is another. Don't do it. If you try, once again, you'll be removed.
  3. Scripts. These are little messages used by IRC veterans that pop up every now and again. They are programmed to, say, post something when someone types a specific line of command. Try to keep this to a minimum.
  4. Bots. Script bots are users who have opened another IRC client solely for the use of scripts. While they are not against the rules, if they are present to cause trouble, they will be banned, and if necessary, so will the operator of the bot.
